Author Guidelines

Scope and Editorial Policy

To submit and publish an article in Ingeniare, there is no cost. Additionally, there are no charges to the author for manuscript processing, making the entire process free of charge.

Authors interested in publishing articles in Ingeniare. Revista chilena de ingeniería must submit their work in accordance with the publication norms and format detailed below. Topics must fall within the fields of engineering: electronics, electrical, computing, mechanical, industrial, metallurgy, chemical, engineering education, and related disciplines. A template of the article can be downloaded from this link.

When submitting a manuscript, authors must:

1. Submit a cover letter declaring that the article has not been submitted or published in another journal, except in conference presentations or theses. A model letter is attached. Download.
2. Ensure that all authors agree with the content of the article and have actively contributed to its publication.
3. To maintain an updated database and reduce review times, provide a list of 5 potential reviewers, indicating their affiliation and email address.
4. Proposed reviewers must be experts on the subject of the article and not affiliated with the authors' institution.
5. Identify each author with their affiliation, email address, and academic degree.
6. The cover letter must be signed by all authors.
7. The content of the article is the sole responsibility of the authors.
8. If the manuscript is accepted for publication, authors must transfer publication rights to Ingeniare. Revista chilena de ingeniería.

Peer Review Process of Scientific Articles

1. Preliminary Evaluation and Submission to Reviewers

The editor's first task will be to verify that the content of the article is appropriate for the journal and that the manuscript adheres to the publication norms. The editor may reject, at their discretion, articles that do not meet the general standards, are poorly written, or lack sufficient scientific or technological merit.

Articles approved in the preliminary selection will be sent for evaluation by specialists and scientists with known research work in areas related to the articles.

After the article's evaluation, the reviewers will present a written report, including comments and suggestions recommending its acceptance or rejection.

2. Reviewers' Role

Reviewers will consider the solidity of the experimental design, verify that the conclusions match the statistical and experimental data, and ensure that the authors have considered the most pertinent literature on the discussed topic. The quality of the writing and graphics will also be evaluated.

During this process, the reviewers' identity will not be known to the authors, but the authors' identity will be available to the reviewers.

3. Editor's Decision

After evaluating the reviewers' recommendations, the editor will make one of the following decisions:

• Accept the article with minor changes: The editor will return the work to the author with a list of minor corrections, including those made by the reviewers. Once the modified manuscript is received by the editor, a confirmation of acceptance and the determination of the publication date will be sent to the authors.

  Minor revisions include: typographical errors, cited articles in the text that do not appear in the references and vice versa, minor discrepancies between the summary and the abstract, moderate changes to the text's writing.

• Return the article for major changes: The editor will return the article to the author with a list of significant correction suggestions, which must be made before the article can be accepted for publication.

  Major revisions include: analyzing data using other statistical tests, adding or redoing tables and figures, repeating experiments, rewriting the discussion considering unconsulted literature, and needing substantial changes to the writing.

  The article will be returned with the indication "not publishable in its current form," meaning it cannot be considered accepted for publication. The author must rigorously address the indicated observations and objections and return the corrected article. The changes made must be detailed in a separate report for a new review by the editor and, if deemed necessary, the peer reviewers.

  The evaluation of the corrected article will result in its acceptance or final rejection.

• Reject the article: The editor will return the article with the reviewers' evaluation and inform the reasons for not publishing it. This decision will almost always be final.

  Reasons for rejection include: content not appropriate for the journal, manuscripts not adhering to publication norms, articles lacking significance, scientific, or technological merit.

Manuscript Preparation and Submission Guidelines

Publication Norms for Authors

The submitted work must not have "Copyright" granted to third parties. The editor reserves the right to make minor editorial modifications for better presentation. Works may be submitted in English (preferably) and Spanish.

Publication Characteristics

The following types of contributions are considered:

• Original Articles: Significant research results that contribute to knowledge in the discipline, development, or application of technological systems. These articles are peer-reviewed.
• Review Articles: These works contain a significant summary of the current state of a topic related to Engineering. It is advisable to consult the editor if the review article is pertinent. These articles undergo the same review process as a regular article. Consultation with the editor is required for the reception of these works.

The editor will authorize the publication of the works, whose content is the sole responsibility of the authors. Modifications or rejections will be communicated to all authors with explanatory notes.

Articles should not exceed 25 pages and must follow the following format:

• Paper Size: LETTER.
• Title: Centered in bold, with Calibri 16 pt font, written following international standards and the orthographic rules of the corresponding language (Example: “Article Titles: Format”), in English and Spanish, ordered according to the manuscript's presentation language, clearly indicating the subject of the article. It should be brief but precise in representing the idea.
• Authors: Following the main title, include the authors' names with superscript numbers indicating their institutional affiliation. Additionally, they must have their ORCID identifier. This affiliation should be on the following line after the authors, identified with Arabic numbers, containing: institution/university, city, country, and the corresponding email for each author. Do not translate the original names of the institutions, and do not use abbreviations. Once the work is received, modifications of authors will not be allowed.
• Abstract: The text begins with "Resumen" and, subsequently, its translation to English, "Abstract." The abstract should not exceed 250 words, briefly specifying: what the author has done, how it was done (only if it is important to detail), the main results, and the relevance of the results. The abstract is a comprehensive but concise representation of the article, informing about the objective, methodology, and results of the work described.
• Keywords: On the following line of the respective abstract and resumen, include at least three keywords defining the article's content. Keywords should differ from those included in the title and correspond to the manuscript's content. Do not use words like "study," "analysis," "method," etc., as they are generic and not differentiating.

The introduction (Title, size 16pt) and body should be written in Calibri 12 pt font, with single line spacing (0 px). Titles: centered in bold with uppercase, Calibri 16 pt font. Secondary subsections/subtitles: font size 14, centered, in bold. Subsections of subsection: format in size 13 bold and centered.

The rest of the text should be written in Calibri, 12 pt font size, single paragraph format, without indentation. Footnotes: should be at the end of each page, font size 10, and justified.

• Introduction: The introduction should orient the reader to the presented problem and include: the nature of the problem, previous work or background, the purpose or relevant motivation of the article. It should be developed in a maximum of one and a half pages.

• Body: The body will contain the fundamental information of the article in detail. It should consider the objective of the presented information, delivered clearly and concisely. The writing should be objective and impersonal. The author must ensure that the form adheres to presentation norms, language correctness, and the use of terminology accepted by scientific organizations.

• All equations, figures, and photographs should have a unique identifying number referenced in the text. Ensure the number is unique in the document. Figures and photographs should be clear and include an explanatory caption at the bottom. Figure 1, equation (1), Table 1, Figure 2, equation (2), etc.

• Figures: Figures should be in the text, inserted in png or jpg format, and centered. Images should be in line with the text. Images include graphs, charts, photographs, diagrams, and, in some cases, tables and equations. Source in the Figure caption: font size smaller than 12 pt and centered concerning the image.

• Text Tables: The title of the table columns should be in bold, and the data in the table body should be in regular font. Scientific names should be in italics. Source at the bottom of the table: font size smaller than 12 pt and centered concerning the table. Numerical citations should be in parentheses and in superscript format (1). A maximum of 50 citations is recommended, preferably citing first-source references (primary works, the most relevant, not their derivatives). Pay attention to the use of commas and periods.

• Equations: Equations should be written in MathType or equation editor. Ensure the equation number is unique in the document. Explain and/or name the meaning of each symbol used in the equations if necessary. Reference all equations, figures, and tables mentioned in the article.

• Conclusions: Conclusions should be clearly defined, covering the following: what is demonstrated in the work, its relevance, advantages, and limitations, the application of results, and future perspectives.

• Acknowledgments: Acknowledgments can be included, indicating the individuals or institutions that contributed intellectually, materially, or financially.

• References: References should be numbered in parentheses and in superscript format (N°) and listed at the end of the publication in square brackets [N°].

A maximum of 50 citations is recommended, preferably citing first-source references (primary works, the most relevant, not their derivatives). Pay attention to the use of commas and periods. They should be based on indexed journals, books, or patents and presented in the following format:

• Books:

• Patents:

• Electronic Texts:

  For a reference taken from the Internet, write the name of the URL of the site, the day, month, and year of the consultation as indicated below. Do not use hyperlinks.

  • [N°] Initials First Name(s) Last Name, “Title of the Page,” Title of the Website. Accessed: “Date of access.” [Online]. Available: Web Address.

Articles may contain references to the authors' own work, provided the citations correspond to the most pertinent and relevant to the developed topic.

Authors will be sent the final print proof of the approved article for publication in PDF format for approval. Only typographical or editorial errors for correction in print may be indicated. These proofs must be returned to the Editor within 48 hours of receipt, also indicating that they authorize Ingeniare. Revista chilena de ingeniería to publish the manuscript.

Important Note:

Equations: Equations must be written in MathType or equation editor. Figures, equations, and Tables must have a unique number referenced in the text. Figures and photographs should be clear, with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi, numbered, and have an explanatory caption at the bottom. Tables should be numbered, and the title should be at the top.

Frequency: Ingeniare is published continuously from 2023 onwards.

Cover Letter

Authors must submit a cover letter along with their manuscript through the site https://cl.submission.scielo.org/index.php/ingeniare.

Manuscript Submission

Manuscripts must be in Microsoft Word and PDF format, according to the presented instructions.

If you submit your manuscript, you must register as an author and submit it through the site https://cl.submission.scielo.org/index.php/ingeniare.

Manuscripts that do not comply with the norms and publication format will not be considered suitable for the review process and will be returned to the authors.
