Abstract

The fall velocity of non-cohesive particles (sand) was experimentally measured using a filming technique with a commercial camera. The diameters of the sediment ranged from 0.075 mm to 2 mm. The experimental values were compared with empirical equations. The equations that considered both form factor and roundness showed the best performance for sediment diameters between 0.075 mm and 1.2 mm.
