Effect on thermal oxidation in TiO2 nanostructures on nanohardness and corrosion resistance

This article aimed to analyze the effect of thermal oxidation on corrosion resistance and hardness properties of TiO2 nanostructures obtained by anodizing in HF/H3PO4 solution. TiO2 nanostructures on Ti6Al4V were subjected to thermal oxidation treatments ranging from 500ºC to 620ºC for 2 hours. Surface morphology was evaluated using scanning electron microscopy, and hardness properties were obtained through nanoindentation. Results showed that thermally oxidized TiO2 nanostructures increased hardness and corrosion resistance compared to the substrate, maintaining their mixed or tubular structure.
