Modeling the carbon contained by aerial biomass in land rehabilitated by the company Drummond LTDA in the department of Cesar-Colombia, based on remote sensing with Sentinel-2 optical images

Around the world, mining has become the primary source of obtaining metallic and non-metallic mineral resources used in various industrial processes. The research aims to model the carbon contained by aerial biomass in land rehabilitated by the company Drummond LTDA in the Cesar-Colombia department, based on remote sensing with Sentinel-2 images. For this, a documentary review was necessary in different academic and scientific databases, followed by field phases for the recognition and delimitation of the study area and the collection of 21 random samples in herbaceous biomass and areas without vegetation for carbon content estimation and the calculation of multiple vegetation indices such as NDVI, ARVI, EVI, SAVI, MSAVI2, OSAVI, and VARI for predictive model development. The species used for reforestation is Andropogon gayanus Kunth (Carimagua grass), presenting carbon concentrations with an average of 49.83%, contributing to the absorption of greenhouse gas emissions in the mining project.
