Abstract

Nanotechnology has garnered significant attention across various fields due to the distinctive properties imparted by nanoscale dimensions. These properties diverge considerably from those observed in bulk materials, making nanomaterials highly attractive for research and application. This review highlights the synthesis and photocatalytic applications of zinc oxide-gold (ZnO/Au) nanocomposites for pollutant degradation. The formation of ZnO/Au heterojunctions enhances photocatalytic activity by facilitating effective charge separation between the components. Various synthesis methods for these nanocomposites are discussed, ranging from conventional chemical precipitation to eco-friendly green synthesis techniques. The photocatalytic efficacy of ZnO/Au nanocomposites is evaluated through the degradation of various pollutants, including dyes, pharmaceutical residues, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs), demonstrating their potential as efficient catalysts for environmental remediation.
