Characterization of performance evaluation methods for software development teams

Abstract

The purpose of performance evaluation is to measure the extent to which an employee of an organization adjusts or complies with the desired profile. The results of this measurement allow generating recommendations to improve the employee's performance. Additionally, the results benefit human talent management in areas such as professional growth, bonuses, and candidate selection. This article presents an analysis, comparison, and characterization of performance evaluation methods, focusing on those most used by software development teams. Through this analysis, 11 conventional performance evaluation methods and 10 approaches specific to software development teams were identified, with technical competencies being prioritized over generic, psychological, or experience-based ones.
