Abstract

The most used method for the disposal of phosphate tailings is through conventional tailing dams. The disposal of tailings in the form of mineral paste has advantages over the conventional method. The objective of this work was the production and characterization of mineral pastes from phosphatic sludges using a laboratory-scale thickener. The main results include a specific weight of 2.61 g/cm³, particles smaller than 30 µm, and the predominance of calcite and dolomite. Additionally, tests showed that mineral pastes with 70% solids exhibited yield stress above 80 Pa from 65% solids, characteristic of a mineral paste.
