Technological management of a mining company that exploits limestone in La Guajira, Colombia

Abstract

In this study, the technological management of a mining company dedicated to limestone exploitation in La Guajira was analyzed to optimize its production processes and strengthen its competitiveness. The methodology included systematic visits to the mine facilities to conduct detailed observations, identify technological problems, and engage in dialogues with the key actors in each operation. This approach allowed us to delve deeper into the difficulties faced by the different processes, from extraction to marketing. The results reveal limited technological implementation management, putting the company’s sustainability market at risk. The lack of quick, practical solutions to unforeseen technological events highlights the urgent need to improve the organizational structure, as this is not sufficient to efficiently manage extraction, internal logistics, transformation, and marketing activities. Although the company has invested in updating equipment and training its staff, these actions are insufficient without a strategic framework that integrates technological management as a fundamental pillar. Finally, it is concluded that the company must move towards a more robust technological management model, which incorporates practices recommended by theorists in the field. The implementation of innovation systems is incorporated into the design of an organizational structure aligned with the sector demands and the establishment of performance indicators that enable continuous evaluation and improvement of production processes.
