Abstract

When discussing the concept of security associated with Information Technology (IT), it is not uncommon to find some confusion between information security and cybersecurity terminology. While the first focuses on protecting information and the assets that manage it, the second focuses on information in its digital form. This article addresses, in particular, the security of communications networks, which allow the interconnection between different end systems, involving not only communications equipment but also the physical media through which digital information is transported. This editorial will not be limited to either the information security or cybersecurity perspective but will present a synergy of both, aiming to maintain the confidentiality, availability, and integrity of data.
