Factors influencing the acceptance of intelligent devices inserted into the body

Abstract

Until recently, the possibility of humans carrying electronic devices in their bodies was only discussed in science fiction. This has changed with the emergence of insertable devices, which people introduce into their bodies to ensure confidentiality of information or increase control over access to strategic resources. As this technology is still in its early stages, there are few studies identifying the factors influencing people's acceptance or rejection of these devices. This study examines nine factors based on the extended UTAUT model and assesses willingness to use these devices through surveys of 183 Chilean university students. The results show that five factors affect the intention to use: habit, hedonic motivation, social influence, effort expectancy, and performance expectancy, explaining 73.6% of the variance in use intention. Ethical judgment was not found to significantly influence the intention to use these devices.
