Slotting and Picking: A review of methodologies and trends

Supply Chain Management involves the formulation of models and methodologies to improve and optimize internal operations and processes, aiming to increase efficiency, responsiveness, and reduce costs. In warehouses and distribution centers, slotting and picking are critical activities to ensure an optimal service level and achieve significant savings in total logistics costs. This article presents an exhaustive literature review on the models and methodologies used for optimizing slotting and picking between 2000 and 2018, identifying applications in other industries, research opportunities, and trends, considering the factors influencing material flows and stochastic components in inventory planning.
