Implementation of Lean Six Sigma in Higher Education Institutions: A comprehensive review

The methodologies of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and Lean Six Sigma (LSS) have been widely implemented in different industries, and higher education institutions (HEIs) have not been the exception. The purpose of this article is to present a review of case studies and conceptual articles regarding the implementation of Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or LSS in HEIs, examining the motivators and principles necessary for effective implementation. The review shows that improvement projects have been implemented in academic, curricular, service, and administrative processes, motivated by cost reduction, quality improvement, competitiveness, and stakeholder satisfaction.
