DEA-Bootstrapping analysis of the financial efficiency model of the Spanish port system

To obtain the financial efficiency of the system as a whole and of its Port Authorities, a DEA-Bootstrapping model study has been conducted to determine the overall performance, a methodology mainly used to obtain terminal efficiencies and applied to the port system in this article. Economic inputs such as total assets and net income from port charges were selected, opposed to operational outputs, as these are performance indicators: the tons moved in a year and the vessels housed in the same period. The conclusions indicate that the overall average financial efficiency of the Spanish port system is low, close to 0.44 for both 2017 and 2018, primarily due to the assets of which the system is composed. The ports with the highest financial efficiency are those consolidated in the Spanish port system, with large volumes of traffic and assets aimed at attracting new vessels and goods.
